Grammatical
errors, awkward sentences, and poor organization all make lousy
first impressions. Proofreading is essential to make sure you
are presenting yourself or your company in the best possible way.
Your printing may succeed or fail based on how well you have proofed
it.
When examining a proof, take your time. Try to be in an area where
you won't have interruptions. Don't let a deadline make you careless.
Make a list, then check each feature throughout the entire proof.
For example, go through it once to check each page sequence. Next,
check borders and rules for alignment and crossovers. Then examine
headlines and display type for typos, content and placement. Also
check all captions for spelling.
Boldly circle every blemish, flaw, spot, broken type and anything
that seems wrong. Double-check that corrections have been made
from previously marked proofs. Write directly on the proof in
a clear, vivid color. Be very explicit.
